A new state of the art film studio facility, RD Studios, has officially opened for business in Park Royal, West London. The studios, also known as “the largest sustainable studios in Europe”, were completed in April 2022 and already have all five of its stages busy.

The £20 million, 45,000ft2 development in Park Royal has been managed and financed entirely in-house by RD Content who set up its own building company to manage the construction and who remain the sole shareholder. RD Studios is the first phase in RD Content’s plans to create 250,000ft2of independent studio space over the next five years in London and abroad.

Baily Garner (Health & Safety) Ltd has been proud to provide Principal Designer and Client CDM Compliance Advisor Services to RD Content on this £1.4 million refurbishment. This project involved the fit-out of the warehouse in Premier Park to provide an ideal sound studio space, including flexible use production offices, kitchens, and hair and makeup rooms within the demise of each sound studio; with works undertaken to strengthen existing flooring to support new partition walls, and the challenging addition of anon-site electrical substation, along with all of the internal fit out of the space; this even included full 2-story mezzanines constructed in the larger studios.

Sustainability was key during the entire project, with a net-zero carbon refurbishment of the existing warehouse the goal and “every decision in the studio’s build made with sustainability in mind.” Solar panels provide electricity to the entire premises, saving 45 tonnes of CO2emissions per year. All building materials have been selected for their sustainable properties from the floor panelling to the paint, earning the studios a well-deserved A+ EPC and 5-star ‘Excellent’ BREEAM rating. Rain water is also harvested and filtered for use in toilets, saving 146,000 litres per year, and visitors have access to electric vehicle charging points and secure cycle stations with a wildflower garden.
